INTRO TO TV COMEDY WRITING

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to create your own TV show? This class will guide you to begin developing an original comedy pilot. All you need are the seeds of an idea that captures your imagination. We’ll work together to bring that idea to life with a focus on crafting vivid characters, which are the fundamental building blocks of effective storytelling.

In this class, we’ll screen and analyze a variety of TV comedies with unforgettable characters and crack the code of how their relationships keep us coming back week after week. Writing exercises will give you the tools to explore your own characters’ inner lives and the emotions that drive them.

New and experienced writers welcome. Hone your individual comedic voice in a fun, supportive setting. You’ll leave with a head start on a TV show that only you can create.

Working with Wendy has brought my TV comedy writing to a new level, and she is now my go-to person to workshop a project. After taking the Intro to TV Comedy Writing workshop last fall, I have finally placed as a second rounder in the Austin Film Festival Writing Competition and a major network is reading my latest TV pilot. The tools she shares on creating character bring them to life on the page in a very real and relatable way. And that has made all the difference for my writing."

Andrea Smith-Peek, Comedy Writer

"Wendy is a godsend! She understands that any story should take its characters and the audience on a rewarding emotional journey. But her true gift is helping writers find themselves in their stories, so that they are told with more truth, passion, and humor."

Carter Covington, TV Writer/Showrunner (Faking It, 10 Things I Hate About You)
